News, Vanesse Pariétaire, & some more n

Mon Nov 16, 2009, 6:47 PM
Hi, all. It's been a while.

First off, the fan-made Nine Inch Nails DVD The Downward Spiral: Live features MY OWN ARTWORK! It's the three PDF files labeled "WIZFAN", if you've already downloaded it. If you haven't, please, do. It's an astounding effort from the crew behind the upcoming fan-made NIN DVD "Another Version of the Truth".

The main producer behind its creation, Pier-Philippe de Chevigny Le Blanc, has a band called Vanesse Pariétaire. Their debut album, "La Mer Était Vide", can be downloaded for free via their website: [link]

I've heard it four times and I have to say, it's amazing. The band has put a lot of effort in each track, trying to create tracks that trigger emotion without being over-sentimental, and generating sounds that are both soothing and easy on the ears as they are dynamic and complex. Le Blanc's vocal talent blends seamlessly with the guitar textures, excellent keyboard sounds and occasional time signature changes. VP admit they are influenced by industrial rock acts such as Nine Inch Nails, however their sound borrows specific elements from the genre and cleverly turns them into something original. A unique listen.

When I first heard the album, an image formed in my head. You can see the result here, where you can also buy it as a print. Speaking of prints, I did a major clean-up to my Prints store. Check it out!

Finally, I made a comic for a competition run by a local newspaper. They said my piece was submitted successfully in the contest and that "I will hear from them soon". I can't wait!

Twenty years of existence.

Sun Aug 30, 2009, 11:55 AM
My twentieth birthday is here. I can already hear the drums in the 20th Century Fox theme in my ears. Now, allow me to open the box of memories:

THINGS I DID WHEN I WAS NINETEEN (in random order):

:bulletblue: I sang in front of an audience for the first time.
:bulletblue: I had the long-awaited surgery on my nose. The nasal septum deviation is gone.
:bulletblue: I composed my very first sets of music, and wrote my first song lyrics. Learnt a lot about music applications, technical terms and music theory along the way.
:bulletblue: I learnt how to growl (for heavy metal music).
:bulletblue: I improved my diaphragmatic, and overall, breathing.
:bulletblue: I drew a sketch of James Hetfield.
:bulletblue: I submitted the first Flash movie I created entirely by myself to a teacher for a project. It was rated 8,5 out of 10. Also made my first interactive Flash portfolio, which was also well-received.
:bulletblue: I decided to leave deviantART on February 23, and came back several weeks later.
:bulletblue: I saw Nine Inch Nails live for the very first (and probably last) time. Remember, I did when I was NINeteen.
:bulletblue: I played two roles in our 2009 stage production, scoring only positive remarks.
:bulletblue: I got a new laptop.
:bulletblue: I bought a second tambourine.
:bulletblue: I made new friends, and got closer to some of my old ones.
:bulletblue: I cooked my very first meal (spaghetti).
:bulletblue: Designed covers for the fan-made Nine Inch Nails live DVD, "Another Version of the Truth". I failed the contest, but learnt several new methods, and became a participant in the creation of the DVD by translating its subtitles in Greek. I made another cover design for a fan-made DVD, and, since there's no art contest, it will be accepted and become available for you to download.
:bulletblue: Came up with several musical nicknames, and will use every single one of them in 2010.
:bulletblue: Saw Star Trek (brilliant), Public Enemies (effective), The Hangover (excellent), Role Models (satisfying), I Love You, Man (more satisfying than RM), Changeling (thrilling), Gran Torino (moving), The Wrestler (great), Duplicity (disappointing), Max Payne (mistreated), Zack & Miri Make A Porno (masterpiece), Watchmen - Director's Cut (almost-masterpiece), Death Race (sweet), Rashomon (priceless), Bank Bang (Greek movie - quite good), Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (yuck), and several others.
:bulletblue: Listened to some of the greatest albums of the past three decades, including Guns N' Roses' Appetite for Destruction, Iron Maiden's self-titled, Nirvana's Nevermind, and Throbbing Gristle's D.O.A. Also, some of the best albums of 2007, 2008 and 2009.
:bulletblue: Improved my artistic skills somewhat.
:bulletblue: Participated in some art contests; failed in every single one.
:bulletblue: Almost participated in Digital Artist Awards 2009 (too late now; the contest closes tomorrow and I didn't make anything good).
:bulletblue: Got helluva lot of friends, comments, experiences and pageviews!
:bulletblue: Went to a fantastic trip to Italy with my family, and made new friends.
:bulletblue: Learnt that Michael Jackson died. Yesterday was Michael's birthday. Today, a friend gave me a book chronicling MJ's life and times, up to his demise, as a birthday present.
:bulletblue: Became a better storyteller, comedian and actor. I still suck at drawing humans, singing in high pitch without using falsetto and scream-singing (growling isn't enough).
:bulletblue: Noticed that most of my pimples are now gone.
:bulletblue: Lived.

Happy 9th B-Day, deviantART!

Fri Aug 7, 2009, 1:32 AM
I'm glad that me and dA were born in the same month. Mine will be in a couple of weeks.

I'm back in Mytilene with my parents and brother. Plus, I got the chance to finally see Nine Inch Nails live. Amazing. Just amazing.

Back from Italy + New Computer!!!

Sun Jul 19, 2009, 9:14 AM
Hey, all!

The one-week trip to Italy was amazing! We had some great fun! We visited Rome and Vatican City in the first two days; the third day was devoted to Florence; and the remaining time was spent in Venice. Lots of jaw-dropping scenery and museum exhibits. Countless pleasant memories. An unforgettable experience.

In other news, I finally got myself a new laptop computer! The nature of my university's third-year lessons demands a powerful workstation, so now I'm amped and ready. Here's the specs of my new baby:

* Operating system: Windows Vista (I still dislike it, but after hours of optimization, I've taken it to a level where it's almost perfectly functional; like, XP-with-SP3-level functional. I am SO going to get an Apple computer once I'm done with university)
* Processor: Intel Core2 Duo P7450 2.13 GHz
* Screen: 18.4" - Maximum resolution: 1920x1080 (should be just fine for a Photoshop freak like me!)
* 4GB DDR3 RAM
* NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT with a memory of up to 2303MB
* 500GB HDD (which, combined with my external hard disk, gives me almost a terabyte of usable space)
* Blu-ray player (okay, it doesn't record BD discs, but it's too early for this yet. Recordable Blu-ray discs and recorders are too expensive and not as reliable)
* Numpad and media touchpad with functions such as play, pause and volume control. A bit annoying if you have sweaty fingers, but it can be a real time-saver!
